captures "one of the small handful of brilliant musicians of his generation" (DownBeat) in an eclectic solo program of Hersch at his pianistic peak. 24 Variations on a Bach Chorale
Three Character Studies
Saloon Songs
Tango Bittersweet
Lyric Piece

"24 Variations on a Bach Chorale" is a 25-minute virtuoso work for solo piano based on the famous chorale from the "St. Matthew's Passion".
Peters Edition #68015, $22.00.

"Three Character Studies" is a set of piano studies that are fully through-composed. The first is a Nocturne for the Left Hand Alone; second is a perpetual-motion Spinning Song; third is a Study in Thirds and Sixths in the style of a chorinho, a Brazilian tango that's a cousin of ragtime. They are challenging to play but are melodic and lots of fun. (duration: 7 minutes).
Peters Edition #68046, $12.95

The inspiration for "Saloon Songs" comes from my colorful mental images of Lower Manhattan in the early part of the 20th Century. All three pieces use dance forms that were popular at that time - the slow drag, the waltz and ragtime. Peters Edition #EP68107, $11.95

Now available on-line from CF Peters, by calling CF Peters at 718-416-7800, or in finer music stores nationwide.
